Did Andy Warhol create her, or did she create Andy Warhol? Either way, she was his muse, and he coined the term ‘superstar’ for her. Edie Sedgwick. She was the girl of his factory, and the star of his underground films, especially ‘The Poor Little Rich Girl Saga’.
Today, 20th April 2012 would have been her 69th birthday, but tragically she died from ‘barbiturate intoxication’ 6 months after the turn into her 28th year (could she be an honorary member of the 27-club?).
Artist turned 1960s actress, socialite, model and muse; she was the first ‘it girl’. She was the one that cut the edges and paved the way for others. She was the queen of the youthquake.
Sedgwick will never be forgotten, but simply remembered for being the antithesis of cool, with her beauty, trademark chandelier earrings and relationship with Bob Dylan.
RIP Miss Sedgwick 20th April 1943 – 16th November 1971.
